What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces an excess of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, leading to darker areas of skin. It can be caused by factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, skin injuries, or conditions like acne.
Sun protection – your skin’s best defence
The sun is a major contributor to hyperpigmentation. Excessive UV exposure can trigger an overproduction of melanin, leading to dark spots, especially if the skin is already sensitive, inflamed, or has scars or red marks.
To prevent sun damage and avoid worsening existing hyperpigmentation, always use sunscreen. We recommend our mineral-based sunscreens which provide immediate protection.
A powerful duo for a more even skin tone
To effectively reduce hyperpigmentation and prevent new discolouration, we recommend using Serum C and Night Cream in the evening. These products gently exfoliate, rebuild the skin and strengthen its resilience. They also work as a perfect repairing duo after a long day in the sun.
Serum C contains a 10% stabilised concentrate of Bitter Orange from the Pomelo tree, rich in Vitamin C. Combined with Night Cream, it penetrates deep into the skin to help even out skin tone and boost radiance.
Night Cream deeply moisturises and revitalises overnight. The lactic acid (AHA) enhances the effects of Serum C, helping to soften the appearance of hyperpigmentation with continuous use.
How to use the products
1. Cleanse your skin with a recommended cleanser from our range. Complement with AHA Cleansing Milk a few times a week.
2. Spray Freshener over your face.
3. Apply Serum C.
4. Finish with Night Cream.
Do not use these products during the day, as they can make the skin UV-sensitive in the first few hours after application.
Exfoliate 1–2 times per week
To maximise the benefits of Serum C and Night Cream, complement your routine with AHA & Jojoba Peeling. This exfoliator combines natural lactic acid (from sugar beets) with fine Jojoba beads. The beads gently remove dead skin cells, while the lactic acid prevents melanin from clustering, creating a brightening effect on hyperpigmentation.
Apply the exfoliation, leave it on for 20 minutes, then rinse off. Finish with Serum C and Night Cream, allowing them to work overnight.
Professional treatment at a salon
For stubborn hyperpigmentation, we recommend a course of Vitamin C treatments at a professional salon. This treatment uses a more potent form of Vitamin C than homecare products, with visible results typically appearing within 8–10 weeks. It also enhances radiance and is suitable for all skin types. Find a salon near you here.
During the treatment period, it is crucial to avoid sun exposure and use our physical sunscreens for protection.
