PSORIASIS – A GUIDE TO NATURAL RELIEF

How to soothe and strengthen your skin

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is a chronic condition that primarily affects the skin but can sometimes impact other areas of the body. In this guide, we explore what psoriasis is, its common symptoms and how you can support and care for your skin using natural skincare from MARIA ÅKERBERG.

Psoriasis is a very common skin condition and it is chronic in nature. As a systemic disorder, it can affect not just the skin, but also the joints, intestines and eyes. Genetic factors and infections are often believed to contribute to developing psoriasis.

The term psoriasis comes from the Greek word psora, meaning itching or rash. It typically appears as red, scaly patches on the skin and can develop anywhere on the body. The severity of symptoms can vary widely from person to person.

How can I tell if I have psoriasis?

Diagnosing psoriasis can be challenging as there is no single test available. It may be mistaken for other skin conditions such as eczema, seborrheic dermatitis or fungal infections, as these can also cause redness and flaking. If you suspect you have psoriasis, it is important to seek advice from a dermatologist to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Can psoriasis be treated?

While there is no cure for psoriasis, its symptoms can be managed and alleviated. Natural skincare can play a significant role in strengthening and protecting the skin. The products from MARIA ÅKERBERG are designed to support the skin’s natural functions, helping to nourish, protect and soothe over time.

Skincare to soothe and restore

For the face

Adopt a skincare routine tailored to your skin type, including cleansing, facial oil and moisturiser that best suit your needs. Face Mask Moist provides deep nourishment and hydration. Eye Cream can be particularly helpful for soothing psoriasis on the eyelids.

For the body

Regularly apply Body Lotion Lotion to keep your skin moisturised and smooth. For flaky patches, use Shea Balm overnight to soften and repair while you sleep. Foot Cream is ideal for dry feet affected by psoriasis.

Moist psoriasis

When the skin feels moist and softened, use only Aloe Vera Barbadensis to calm and soothe the skin. Avoid oils and creams that could potentially worsen the condition.

For the scalp

During flare-ups, massage Shea Balm or Body Balm White Chocolate (for a luxurious scent) into the scalp and leave it overnight. Wash it out in the morning and follow with Scalp Treatment Rosemary applied to towel-dried hair.

Achieving better results with exfoliation

Only exfoliate flaky skin that is not inflamed. Scalp Scrub Intensive gently removes flaky skin on the scalp, making it suitable for use 1–2 times a week before shampooing.

For the body, we recommend Cream Scrub Sweet Breeze or Salt Scrub, which exfoliates while moisturising and softening the skin.
