What is hyperpigmentation?
Hyperpigmentation occurs when the skin produces an excess of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, leading to darker areas of skin. It can be caused by factors such as sun exposure, hormonal changes, inflammation, skin injuries, or conditions like acne.
Sun protection – your skin’s best defence
Excessive exposure to UV radiation is a common factor in the development of dark spots on the skin. This can be particularly problematic if the skin is already sensitive, inflamed, damaged or has red scars.
To prevent sun damage and avoid worsening existing hyperpigmentation, always use sunscreen. We recommend our mineral-based sunscreens which provide immediate protection.
How to treat dark spots with serum and night cream
A combination of vitamin C and Lactic Acid (AHA) can effectively reduce dark spots and even out skin tone. Use Night Serum Vitamin C and Night Cream in the evening; they provide a gentle exfoliating, soothe inflammation and help to rebuild the skin. They are also ideal as a restorative two-step treatment after a long day in the sun, helping to counteract sun spots.
Vitamin C serum that brightens and protects the skin
Night Serum Vitamin C is a deep-acting serum that both prevents and treats hyperpigmentation. It contains stable, natural vitamin C and Ectoin, which help even out skin tone, enhance radiance and protect the skin against oxidative stress by providing powerful antioxidant protection.
Combined with our night cream with Lactic Acid (AHA), it creates an effective treatment that helps the skin become clearer, more even-toned and more resilient.
Night cream with Lactic Acid (AHA) for a more even skin tone.
Night Cream is a moisturising and skin-evening night cream for those with an uneven skin tone, acne scars or other hyperpigmentation. It contains Lactic Acid (AHA), which gently exfoliates the skin, accelerates cell renewal and contributes to a clearer complexion with increased radiance.
The fermented lactic acid is also humectant and helps support the skin’s beneficial bacteria and strengthen the skin barrier (read more about the skin’s microbiome here). In combination with vitamin C, it helps even out skin tone and reduce the appearance of dark spots.
The formula also contains Rosehip Seed Oil, a natural alternative to retinol, which supports skin cell renewal, improves elasticity and reduces the appearance of fine lines (Read more about Rosehip seed oil and vitamin A here).

Exfoliate 1–2 times per week
To maximise the benefits of Night Serum Vitamin C and Night Cream, complement your routine with AHA & Jojoba Peeling. This exfoliator combines natural lactic acid (from sugar beets) with fine Jojoba beads. The beads gently remove dead skin cells, while the lactic acid prevents melanin from clustering, creating a brightening effect on hyperpigmentation.
Apply the exfoliation, leave it on for 20 minutes, then rinse off. Finish with Night Serum Vitamin C and Night Cream, allowing them to work overnight.
Professional treatment at a salon
For stubborn hyperpigmentation, we recommend a series of Vitamin C treatments at a professional salon. This treatment uses a more potent form of Vitamin C than homecare products, with visible results typically appearing within 8–10 weeks. It also enhances radiance and is suitable for all skin types.Find a salon near you here.
During the treatment period, it is crucial to avoid sun exposure and use our physical sunscreens for protection.
FAQ
This is the recommended order:
- Cleansing
- Toner
- Serum C
- Night Cream or another moisturising product
Serum C should be applied to clean skin after toner, as toner is considered part of the cleansing step. It helps to restore the skin’s pH balance and prepares the skin for serum and moisturiser.
Do not use the products during the day as they may make the skin sensitive to light in the first few hours after application.
For a natural treatment, we recommend a combination of Serum C and Night Cream. These contain, among other ingredients, vitamin C from Bitter Orange and Lactic Acid (AHA) derived from Sugar Beet, which help to brighten and even out the skin tone with regular use.
